A rheumatologist in private practice, Dr. Micha Abeles belongs to the Board of Directors for the Lupus Foundation of America’s Connecticut Chapter, which is preparing for the 2017 Walk to End Lupus Now, New York City, after merging with the Lupus Foundation of America’s Northeast Region.

Studies indicate that approximately 1.5 million people are diagnosed with lupus in the United States alone. Walk to End Lupus Now spreads awareness of the thousands of individuals impacted by the disease and provides funding for research, education, and advocacy initiatives. Proceeds also contribute to programs that offer assistance to and improve the quality of life of patients with lupus and their families.

Participants in the 2017 Walk to End Lupus Now New York will help the event reach a one-year milestone of raising $4 million. During the registration process, participants may register as an individual, form their own team, or join an existing one. A registration is not required, although walkers are encouraged to raise at least $100 to support the Lupus Foundation’s mission of a life without lupus. The walk will take place on May 6, 2017.

The New York walk began in 2008 and has raised more than $3.25 million since its first walk.
